As I looked across Creech Lake last weekend, my eye was immediately drawn to this single tree on the hillside that was different from all of the others. While my friend of Wild Saunter would immediately be able to quote genus and species of this tree, I simply noted how even the slightest difference can be so apparent.
Do you blend into the crowd, or is there something about you that people will see is different if they but take a moment to look? What is the color that people will notice in you? I hope they see in me a care and concern for others. I hope they see a little of what I claim to be, that being, a follower of Christ. I hope that my life is colored by love, care, and concern for others. I hope my life is colored by service to others. If I am colored in such away that people see the difference, a difference that is appealing, then maybe through that they can learn the reason why I am colored the way I am.
I go hiking as often as my busy life allows. Too frequently, my hikes are just about walking, but occasionally something will grab my attention. Usually I try to capture it in a photograph. Sometimes the photograph brings to mind something much more existential.

Thinking Vertical.
I found "vertical" in this grass used for erosion control on the Creech Lake Dam, at Montgomery Bell State Park.
Of course, we are shaped by the day to day. Our dreams are not always where we end up. Sometimes, we are bent and broken by circumstance. Our dreams are altered by the influence of those about us and the traumas of life.
At any point in time, we may find that we feel more like this bent and broken tree that I found last weekend. Bent by adversity, and broken by forces beyond its control, we, like it, appear to be anything but what we dreamed that we would be. But unlike the tree, we, as long as their is life in us, can continue to dream. We can continue to look to rise above what we are. We can work to become that of which we now can only dream. So, look up from where you are, whatever your state, and dream. Reach for the heavens. Who knows what heights you will attain if you will but dream.
